What is a Physician Assistant?

A physician assistant (PA) is a certified mid-level medical provider who works under the supervision of a licensed doctor (an MD) evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients.  A PA has completed at least a bachelor's degree as well as a post-graduate PA training program and certifying board exam that is accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Each PA is required to log 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education every two years as well as take a national board exam every seven years to remain certified.  Practicing PA’s are also licensed by their respective state’s medical board.
